In this classic kid’s story, which needs no introduction, one little pig learned the hard way that laziness doesn’t pay off when a hungry wolf comes knocking. We already did The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Ugly Duckling – over the coming weeks, I’ll probably post quite a few Western fairy tales in Chinese to try and get the full set.

从前,有三只小猪。他们长大了,要自己盖房子。
第一只小猪懒,他用草盖了一个房子。又快又容易。
第二只小猪用木头盖房子。也不太难。
第三只小猪很努力。他用砖盖房子。他用了很长时间,可是他的房子很结实。
一天,一只大灰狼来了。他很饿,想吃小猪。
狼来到第一个房子。他说:”小猪,小猪,开门!”小猪说:”不开!”狼说:”那我吹!”他一吹,草房子就倒了。小猪跑到第二个房子。
狼也来了。他又吹,木头房子也倒了。两只小猪跑到第三个房子。
狼又来了,又吹。可是砖房子没有倒!狼吹了很多次,还是吹不倒。
最后,狼累了,走了。三只小猪很安全,也很高兴。
第三只小猪说:”努力工作是对的。”

The Three Little Pigs
Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. They grew up and needed to build their own houses.
The first little pig was lazy. He built a house with straw. It was fast and easy.
The second little pig built a house with wood. It wasn’t too difficult either.
The third little pig worked very hard. He built a house with bricks. It took him a long time, but his house was very sturdy.
One day, a big bad wolf came. He was very hungry and wanted to eat the little pigs.
The wolf came to the first house. He said: ‘Little pig, little pig, open the door!’ The little pig said: ‘No!’ The wolf said: ‘Then I’ll blow!’ He blew once, and the straw house collapsed. The little pig ran to the second house.
The wolf came too. He blew again, and the wooden house also collapsed. The two little pigs ran to the third house.
The wolf came again and blew. But the brick house didn’t collapse! The wolf blew many times, but still couldn’t blow it down.
Finally, the wolf got tired and left. The three little pigs were safe and very happy.
The third little pig said: ‘Working hard is the right thing to do.’
