Hey crew, sorry for the slight delay on getting a piece out this week, I’ve been out of town. In today’s passage, we learn vocabulary related to mobile shopping.
There a few different ways to say “app” in Chinese. Of course, you can refer to the name of the app itself (like Taobao or Weixin), or you can say the English letters “A-P-P” (not “app” like “application”), or you can use the Chinese word for “app”, 应用 (yìngyòng), though I’d argue this is less common.

我很喜欢在手机上买东西。
我有一个手机。手机里有一个APP(应用)。这个app里有很多东西:有衣服,有书,有水果,也有电脑。
今天我想买一件衣服。我打开APP,看见很多衣服。有红色的,有白色的,也有黑色的。我喜欢白色的。这件白色的衣服不贵,一百块钱。我说:”好,我买这件。”
我也想买水果。我看见苹果和香蕉。苹果很便宜,香蕉也很便宜。我买了一些苹果,也买了一些香蕉。
买东西很方便。我不用去商店。我在家里,在我的沙发上,就可以买。
三天以后,东西到了我家。我很高兴。白色的衣服很好看,苹果和香蕉也很好吃。

Shopping on My Phone
I have a phone. There is an app (application) on my phone. This app has many things: there are clothes, books, fruit, and also computers.
Today I want to buy some clothes. I open the app and see many clothes. There are red ones, white ones, and black ones too. I like the white one. This white piece of clothing is not expensive, one hundred yuan. I say: “Good, I’ll buy this one.”
I also want to buy fruit. I see apples and bananas. The apples are very cheap, and the bananas are also very cheap. I bought some apples and also bought some bananas.
Shopping is very convenient. I don’t need to go to the store. I’m at home, on my sofa, and I can shop.
Three days later, the things arrived at my home. I am very happy. The white clothes look great, and the apples and bananas are also very delicious.
